Spring Brook Ice & Fuel isn’t just your local heating oil delivery company! We are your energy conservation company! We make it easy to save money, energy and the environment every day!
Now that fall is here, you’re probably putting away the outdoor furniture, taking the kids to after-school activities, and maybe even thinking about your gift lists for the upcoming winter holidays. We’ve got one more list for you – your fall comfort checklist!
Spring Brook Ice & Fuel can help you with these tasks to keep your heating system humming this autumn:
-
Schedule your annual heating tune-up, if you didn’t have one in the spring. During the tune-up, our technicians will provide preventive maintenance so that your heating equipment will be working at its very best this winter.
-
Consider an upgrade to your heating system. If your equipment is more than 10 years old, or either system didn’t work up to par, talk to us about replacing and upgrading. Whether you need a boiler, furnace, heat pump, or water heater, the new unit will use less energy and be less likely to break down. Plus, Federal tax incentives for high efficiency equipment are expiring at the end of December, so if you’re thinking about an upgrade, you should act now for additional savings.
-
Purchase a smart thermostat: A smart thermostat is a Wi-Fi enabled device that automatically adjusts heating and cooling temperature settings in your home for optimal performance. The latest smart thermostats connect to the Internet, allowing remote control and personalized scheduling of home heating (and cooling in the summer) from your smartphones or tablet.
-
Replace your furnace’s air filter: If you have a furnace, replacing the filter once a month helps assure the best airflow and efficiency.
-
Keep ductwork in good repair: This can be accomplished by sealing leaks with mastic, metal-backed tape. Your home could be losing up to 25 percent of its heated or cooled air before it reaches the vents.
-
Insulate your hot water tank: The U.S. Department of Energy recommends that you insulate the tank or water heater and the first six feet of hot water pipe.
You’ll also be happy to know that you don’t have to spend money to save money! Here are some simple steps you can take to conserve energy that don’t involve spending a single cent:
-
Set your thermostat one or two degrees cooler than you normally would, and even lower at night.
-
Open blinds, shades, curtains and drapes during the daytime to let the sunshine warm your home, then close them at night.
-
Avoid heating rooms you’re not using. If your home has central heating, close doors to unused rooms. If you have radiator-based heating, in addition to closing doors to unused rooms, turn off the radiators in those rooms.
-
Remove air conditioning units from windows.
-
Close your kitchen vent, fireplace damper and closet doors when not in use.
