Just like any other food or beverage product you consume, ice is considered a food and is recognized as such by the FDA. For this reason, the IPIA’s packaged ice manufacturing and distributing members are required to meet its rigorous Packaged Ice Quality Control Standards (PIQCS). The standards include mandatory third-party-conducted audits of each member’s manufacturing facilities for personal hygiene, food safety training; sanitary operations of facilities, equipment and utensils; bacteriological testing of the finished product; and much, much more!
