Many of our customers trust Spring Brook Ice & Fuel to take care of their Central Connecticut natural gas heating systems and appliances. We are proud to offer variety of natural gas services, including conversions, equipment installations, maintenance, and repairs.

If you are a natural gas customer, it is important to follow appropriate safety practices to protect your home and family in the event of a gas leak. Here are a few important natural gas safety tips that you and your family should be aware of:

  1. Tune It Up: Call Spring Brook Ice & Fuel to schedule your tune-up, to service your gas-fired equipment and check for leaks.
  2. Detect & Protect: Protect your family against the effects of a carbon monoxide leak by installing and testing carbon monoxide detectors on every floor of your home.
  3. Sniff, Sniff!: Natural gas is treated with mercaptan to give it a distinctive sulfuric, or rotten egg-like odor. If you ever notice that smell in or around your house – or even outside – you should leave the area immediately and call the police, fire department and gas utility.
  4. Protect your home and family in case of a leak: There are very specific steps you should take if you suspect a gas leak.
    1. No flames, sparks, or light switches: Do not turn any lights on or off, do not use your phone in the vicinity, do not activate any electronic devices.
    2. Leave the area immediately: Gather your loved ones and leave the property. You should have an emergency plan and meeting place for your household. Now is the time to use it.
    3. Report the leak to 911 and to Spring Brook Ice & Fuel: As soon as you are a safe distance away, call 911 to report a suspected gas leak. Then call our emergency service number: (860) 225-6491. Someone will respond to your emergency call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
    4. Do not return to the building or area: Do not go back into the building for any reason until the emergency services teams have determined it is safe to do so.
    5. Have your system checked!: Our team will be on their way as soon as you call in the emergency. Do not turn your heating system or any other appliances on until we have checked the system for any mechanical issues.

At Spring Brook Ice & Fuel, your safety is our main concern. Call us at (860) 225-6491 to learn more about natural gas safety.
