Spring Brook Ice & Fuel is proud to offer a variety of natural gas services, including conversions, equipment installations, maintenance, and repair services to our Central Connecticut friends and neighbors. If you are a natural gas customer, it is imperative to follow some very important safety practices to protect your home and family in the event of a gas leak.
Please use our safety tips below and review them with your family to help keep everyone inside your home safe.
- Schedule repairs and tune-ups: All repairs to your natural gas equipment need to be done by a certified professional. Call Spring Brook Ice & Fuel at (860) 225-6491 to service your equipment and check for leaks.
- Install carbon monoxide detectors: Carbon monoxide is an odorless gas that is virtually impossible to detect without a working CO detector. Protect your family against the effects of a carbon monoxide leak by installing and testing carbon monoxide detectors on every floor of your home.
- Know what natural gas smells like: Natural gas is treated with mercaptan to give it a distinctive sulfuric, or rotten egg-like odor. If you ever notice that smell in or around your house – or even outside – you should leave the area immediately and call the police, fire department and gas utility.
- Protect your home and family in case of a leak: There are very specific steps you should take if you suspect a gas leak:
- Don’t create flames or sparks: Do not ignite any flames, do not turn any lights on or off, do not use your phone in the vicinity, and do not activate any electronic devices.
- Leave the area immediately: Gather your loved ones and leave the property. You should already have an emergency plan and meeting place for your household.
- Report the leak to 911 and Spring Brook Ice & Fuel: As soon as you are a safe distance away, call 911 to report a suspected gas leak. Then call our emergency service number: (860) 225-6491. Someone will respond to your emergency call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
- Do not return to the building or area: Do not go back into the building for any reason until the emergency services teams have determined it is safe to do so.
- Have your system checked: Our team will be on their way as soon as you call in the emergency. Do not turn your heating system or any other appliances on until we have checked the system for any mechanical issues.
Our goal at Spring Brook Ice & Fuel is to keep our customers as safe as possible. Call us at (860) 225-6491 or contact us to learn more about natural gas safety.
